This family tree and website are dedicated to my father Douglass Royal McGowan (1936-2002), his great-great-grandfather John Bruner McGown who was killed in the Civil War, and Alexander or "Elac" who brought the McGowen line to America when he arrived from Ireland in 1807. (Yes, the spelling of the surname has evolved over the years.) This site also pays homage to all of the families, including the Bruners, Sampsons, Rowlands, Adrians, Bulls, McCords, and so many more, who have contributed to what we are today through bloodline and, perhaps equally important, through association and sharing of their values and experiences. It is also a work in progress, as new information gets added as discovered. I hope you will enjoy browsing through this site, and if you have any comments or suggestions (or even better yet, genealogical information!), please do not hesitate to contact me.
Information sources that have made this tree possible include the following: "Novy-Garwood Family Record and Connections" compiled by Frederick George Novy and Marguerite Novy Lambert; "Beaulier-Dumais-Kimball-Rhodes" Family Tree at Ancestry.com for McGowan, Bruner and Rhodes infromation (thanks Barb!); "Amy's Family Tree" at Tribalpages for Bruner information (thanks Amy!); "Phillips Family Tree" at Tribalpages for Adrian information (thanks Marie!); "Nancy's Family Tree" at Tribalpages for Dana information (thanks Nancy!); RootsWeb's WorldConnect Project "New World Descendants" for McCord information (thanks William!), and many others. Again, thank you all!
Yours truly,
Doug R.Y. McGowan
P.S. Since my dad's ashes were scattered at sea, and hence no physical grave, I have made a virtual memorial for him (actually more for my sake) at Find A Grave (Memorial# 47794499). To get there from here directly, you can click on the "Doug R. McGowan Memorial Online" link on the left.
